God sees and knows everything about us – there is nothing we can hide from Him. While we often try to keep our struggles and sins secret while broadcasting our achievements, God calls us to do the opposite: to humbly confess our sins while doing good works in secret.
What Does it Mean that God is Omniscient?
God is omniscient, meaning He is all-knowing. He sees everything about us – both the good and bad. We cannot hide anything from Him, even though we often try to keep our struggles and sins secret while broadcasting our achievements publicly.
Why Do We Try to Keep Secrets from God?
We naturally want to hide things we’re ashamed of, just like Adam and Eve tried to hide from God in the garden. But keeping secrets:
- Creates barriers between us and God
- Gives power to shame and guilt
- Prevents us from experiencing true freedom and healing
What Should We Keep Secret vs. Make Public?
The Bible teaches us to:
- Expose and confess our sins rather than hide them
- Do good works (prayer, giving, fasting) in secret rather than for public praise
- Let God’s light expose areas of darkness in our lives
How Does God View Our Secrets?
Scripture tells us:
- Nothing hidden will not eventually be disclosed (Luke 8:17)
- God sees everything done in secret and will reward righteous acts done privately
- At judgment, all will be exposed – but for believers, our sins are covered by Christ’s blood
Life Application
This week, consider:
- What areas of your life are you trying to keep hidden from God?
- Are you doing good works for public recognition or quietly for God’s glory?
- Who could you trust to confess struggles to and pray with?
- What makes it hard for you to be fully honest with God?
- How might your relationship with God change if you stopped trying to hide things from Him?
- In what ways do you seek human recognition rather than God’s approval?
Challenge:
Take time this week to honestly confess any hidden sins to God and possibly a trusted Christian friend. Remember that God already knows everything about you and loves you completely. Let His light expose areas of darkness so you can walk in freedom.
